Spen Valley Lesiure Centre public engagement

What we're doing

Following approval in August 2018 to build a new £15 million leisure centre in the Spen Valley, we will be displaying the plans at venues around the Spen Valley from 18 March 2019. This will provide an opportunity for residents to give their feedback and comment on the new facility. It will also give residents the opportunity to chat with staff about this exciting development.

When we're doing it?

Between 18-Mar-2019 and 01-Apr-2019

We will be

  • Giving out/sharing information

Themes

  • Events, leisure and culture
  • Health, wellbeing and lifestyle

Where's it happening?

In one or more wards:
  • Cleckheaton
  • Heckmondwike
  • Liversedge and Gomersal
  • Mirfield

What happened?

Engagement with existing customers, several focus groups and some public drop in sessions was held to look at the proposed designs and understand any issues.

Operational comments were been passed to KAL for them to consider once the new centre opens.

Some comments regarding the change in dimensions of the swimming pool were received, but the modern standard size is what has been incorporated and whilst slightly shorter in length there are extra lanes so we are satisfied that the pool will still meet the needs of swimmers.

The main complaints were around the absence of a café, and the positioning of disabled changing facilities on the first floor. In both instances, these comments have been taken on board, and a café element will now be included and the changing room has been re-positioned based on the feedback received. Other comments regarding the car park layout were also considered and some changes to the proposed layout have been made.

Finally, some comments were received regarding the loss of the skate park, and whilst not in the scope of this project, work to provide a replacement skate park is currently taking place outside of this project.
