Our Voice: Our Launch Event!

What we're doing

Our Voice is a new project which asks young people to show adult decision makers how to engage with young citizens. The young people who join the programme undertake a training programme to gain basic skills in Service Appraisal, Public Speaking, Team Work, Participation, Creative Consultation, Change Making and Leadership. We are holding an event in March 2013 to showcase the achievements of the current Crew Members and invite other young people and decision makers to be involved.

When we're doing it?

Between 18-Feb-2013 and 20-Mar-2013

We will be

  • Asking for information
  • Giving out/sharing information

  • Customer experiences
  • Education and learning
  • Events, leisure and culture
  • Health, wellbeing and lifestyle

Where's it happening?

Across the whole of Kirklees:

More information on what we're doing

Young people aged 14-20 can get involved and become an Our Voice Crew Member by calling Kay Parry (07976497934) or emailing our.voice@kirklees.gov.uk

Rather than holding a launch event, we are off on a launch roadshow! We will be visiting meetings and promoting our new project over the coming months.

What happened?

Since September 2012, we have trained up a total of 128 AQA accredited, trained Crew Members.

We have visited lots of places, to tell Decision Makers, The Public and Commissioners about our new project, including:

-Local Area Commitee Meetings
-Schools and Colleges
-The Childrens Trust
-Youth Clubs
-IYSS Management Meeting

We've featured in the local press and won A 'Rotary Young Citizen of the Year' local award and a National Youth On Board (British Youth Council) award.

Our progress can be seen through our online blog.

What difference did the work make?

As more young people have trained up and the Our Voice Programme has gained momentum, we've worked on a variety of prjects. These include:

-Our Lanch Guide & Photo Shoot
-The Your Library:Your Voice Consultation.
-Our Town: Our Views (The High Street Innovation Fund)
-Locala: If I was Homeless, I would need...
-National Careers Website Service Feedback
-Emotional Health and Wellbeing Project
-KNH Furniture Pack Consultation
-Tenants and Residents 'Decoration Allowances' Scrutiny

You can read about these projects on the involve website or at http://www.kirkleesyc.org.uk/our-voice/our-aim/
