The Kirklees Concert Season is a celebrated and long-running collaboration between Kirklees Council and Opera North, bringing breathtaking live music to the heart of our community.
At the centre of the season is the Orchestra of Opera North, delivering spine-tingling symphonic music that fills Huddersfield Town Hall with world-class sound and features festive concerts which raise the roof every year!
Alongside these grand performances, our much-loved series of Organ concerts at Huddersfield Town Hall and Chamber concerts at Dewsbury Town Hall offer a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere - perfect for newcomers and music lovers alike - and lunch is also served!

Orchestral
The Orchestra of Opera North is unique among professional British orchestras in performing a year-round programme in opera houses and concert halls. This season, you can look forward to a selection of some of the most well-loved music that the classical world has to offer, making for a memorable evening whether it's your first or fiftieth time hearing a live orchestra. Rachmaninov's Second Symphony (23 Sep) is the ultimate Romantic symphony, packed with sumptuous melody and heart-on-sleeve intensity. There's a treat in store when David Pipe joins the Orchestra to perform Saint-Saëns' monumental 'Organ' Symphony (22 Jan), the pipes of the majestic 'Father' Willis organ joining with the full orchestra in blazing sound. And there's much more in store...
Chamber
Our lunchtime concerts at Dewsbury Town Hall showcase and are curated by musicians from the Orchestra of Opera North. Be it a trombone trio or string quartet, you can hear up close how small groups of instruments interact and interweave to create moments of peace, playfulness and joy. The series includes an ever-popular festive appearance from the University of Huddersfield Brass Band (3 Dec at Dewsbury Town Hall, also 1 December at Huddersfield Town Hall).
Organ concerts
David Pipe, Organist at Huddersfield Town Hall, has invited acclaimed players from as far afield as the USA to perform on the Hall's famous 'Father' Willis organ in the coming season. We'll be joined by cathedral musicians Andrew Lumsden and James Vivian, plus Gordon Stewart, Organist Emeritus, who gives his annual concert. We're delighted to welcome several organists for their first visits to Huddersfield, including Claudia Grinnell, Ben Bloor and Imogen Morgan. In February, David will join forces with Opera North Brass for an exciting programme that explores this majestic combination of instruments. As ever, the University of Huddersfield Brass Band return with their annual Christmas concert.
In addition to his role at the Town Hall, David Pipe is Head of Organ Studies at the University of Huddersfield. Acknowledging the loyalty and sense of community inspired by the Organ Concert Season, David and the Council will work with audiences to allow everyone to enjoy the Town Hall's world-class organ, which dates back to 1860.
Gordon's Stewart's 30 years as Borough Organist
A film commissioned by Kirklees Council to mark Gordon Stewart's 30 years as the Borough Organist for Kirklees, based at Huddersfield Town Hall. Hear Gordon discuss the history of the Town Hall organ, his time as Borough Organist, and hear him playing the beautiful Father Willis organ.
