About Bagshaw Museum

The museum is in Wilton Park, Batley.

Displays include two Batley local history galleries including stories about iconic institutions such as Fox's Biscuits and Batley Variety Club; the 'Spirit of South Asia' gallery and a versatile temporary exhibition space that can also be used to host events and activities.

Other permanent displays include 'The Kingdom of Osiris', an atmospheric Egyptology gallery where dramatic lighting effects help to recreate the interior of a tomb, and a Victorian seaside gallery with a Punch and Judy show.

Bagshaw shop is set in the Victorian gothic splendour of the stunning entrance hall and is a great place to find wonderful and curious treasures to buy.

Shopping highlights include a quirky range of Ancient Egyptian inspired items as well as a gorgeous display of sparkly and coloured gemstones and geodes from around the world.

There are stylish William Morris homewares which make beautiful gifts, as well as a unique artisan range of knitted tea cosies and bags, all handmade by 103 year old May Sanderson!

With a huge variety of pocket money toys for indoors or outdoors too there is something to keep everyone happy.

School visits

Bagshaw Museum has an excellent reputation for its education service and holds successive Sandford Heritage Education Awards for the quality of its educational provision.

Bagshaw specialises in visits related to its Egyptian gallery and is one of the few places in the north of England that offers children the opportunity to handle and investigate real objects from Ancient Egypt. there is more information in our brochure.

Group visits

Organised groups are very welcome although booking is essential.

Admission is free during normal opening hours and charges are applicable outside of the normal hours. Contact Bagshaw Museum to book.
