On this basic First Aid course you will cover topics such as CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), treatment for choking and treating bleeds.

Sports Coach UK (SCUK) courses

SCUK safeguarding course

This workshop will raise your awareness of the tell-tale signs of abuse, and give you the tools and confidence you need to deal with any issues sensitively, appropriately and effectively should the need ever arise in your coaching career.

Candidates attending the safeguarding training must be 18 years of age or older due to the sensitive nature of the subject. If you are under the age of 18 you can attend the SCUK Keeping Safe in Sport: Safeguarding for Young Volunteers 13+.

Moving More Often leader training

A series of training courses and workshops to provide leaders with the theoretical and practical skills and knowledge to deliver and create sustainable physical activity opportunities across Kirklees.

There are 6 courses covering different topics and skills on each one.

Core module

We advise all leaders to attend this as it covers the underpinning theoretical information in order to deliver safe, inclusive activity for all ages and abilities, particularly older people, people living with dementia and disabilities. The core module also looks at aspects such as health and safety, motivating individuals to become more active, being an inclusive group and individual's barriers to being active.

Ping pong

Learn how to lead a basic game of ping pong and how to adapt or vary the game to make it more inclusive and suitable for all abilities and environments.

Activi-chi

A 2 hour workshop aimed to train leaders to deliver adapted and simplified chair based tai-chi. Activi-chi is a great activity to use as a relaxation tool and is inclusive for working with older people including people who are living with dementia.

Circle dancing

A 5 hour dance based training course training leaders how to create and deliver chair and standing dances inspired from all cultures and countries around the world. This training course is suitable for leaders who are working with older people, including people living with dementia and long term health conditions.

Shall we dance ballroom

A 2 day training course aimed to train leaders how to encourage others to ballroom dance, training leaders how to adapt Ballroom dancing to chair based activity and to give leaders the practical skills to organise tea dances in their settings. Representing a school? This training course will also teach leaders how to work inter-generationally.

Shall we Bollywood

A 5 hour inclusive day of Bollywood dance, gestures, movements with health benefits - simplified. Come and learn the latest moves and grooves of Bollywood dance with a difference. From reminiscing and facial expressions to the masala mix activity, there is something for everyone. Be the next leader in leading 'Shall We Bollywood'.

Walk Leader training

This one day course will qualify you to lead health walks. These are short group walks of up to 1½ hours for people who have done little or no structured walking and wish to improve their health through walking.

We have volunteering opportunities within Kirklees Walking for new leaders. The course will enable you to plan, deliver and organise a health walk.

Leaders in running and fitness (LIRF)

A one day intensive training course which gives candidates the opportunity to develop their skills in leadership within a jogging group.

The course covers all topics including planning and delivering a session; energy systems; common injuries and their prevention.

Once you have completed the course and have received your DBS clearance, you will be issued with your license and insurance to lead!

Inclusive Clubs - Training and officer support

The inclusive club programme is available to Kirklees based sports clubs and physical activity providers, who would like to develop their offers to become more inclusive.

The programme combines workshop learning with club action planning to help clubs and physical activity providers progress their identified developments.

Inclusive club workshop

An interactive workshop that will question what inclusion is for sports clubs and activity providers. The workshop is then broken into some key areas including: marketing, partnership working, participation and action planning in relation to inclusion.

Officer support

Available if required to support sports clubs and activity providers action their club development planning, as well as provide advice and guidance on the key areas identified in the workshop.

Club development planning

This section will ask that sports clubs and physical activity providers either to work with their existing club development plan to progress an area of inclusion, or create a new development plan reflecting inclusion which useable to them.

Resources

Provided for all clubs and physical activity providers who take part in Inclusive Clubs. The resources are a 'go to guide' outlining local information, services and a range of national organisations that support inclusive offers for different target audiences.
