Deputations and petitions

Members of the public may attend a meeting to present a petition on an issue of concern relating to a matter on which the body has powers and responsibilities.

Any person wishing to speak to present their petition must also register to make a 'deputation'.

A deputation is where an individual, or a group of up to five people, can attend the meeting and make a presentation on a particular issue of concern. Ahead of the meeting, the organiser will be asked to complete a form in advance which can be obtained from the contact officer listed on the agenda.

In accordance with Council Procedure Rule 10, members of the public must submit the deputation in writing, at least three clear working days in advance of the meeting and shall subsequently be notified if the deputation shall be heard.

A maximum of four deputations shall be heard at any one meeting.

Asking a question

Members of the public may register to ask a question under the 'Public Question Time' section of an agenda.

In accordance with Council Procedure Rule 11, the period for the asking and answering of public questions shall not exceed 15 minutes.

Any questions must be submitted in writing at least three clear working days in advance of the meeting to the contact officer listed on the agenda. A maximum of two questions per person/organisation may be submitted.
