About the site
This play area is set within the recreation ground at the end of Causeway Crescent in Linthwaite which sits in the Colne Valley Ward. We've chosen to update it because of its age and feedback received from the community through the Listen to Linthwaite engagement (May 2019), and subsequent conversations with the Pride in Linthwaite group.
Works have now completed on the new play area!

Project overview
Together with Ward Councillors we created a new design for the Play Area. The design was created to make the play provision more appealing and accessible to all age groups by using a variety of play equipment types and natural play features.
Together with Pride in Linthwaite and Local Ward Councillors we created a design for redeveloped play on site.
The design planned to renovate the play area on site to cater for a wide range of ages and also addresses the problems with the football area being waterlogged during the winter by introducing a surfaced kick-about area.
Options for improving drainage on the site have been thoroughly investigated but unfortunately cannot be solved therefore the proposed scheme works with the existing drainage problems.

A public consultation on the design took place and as a result of our consultation, we created a report with our findings and revised the designs for the play area and recreation ground plans.

Responses to our consultation were overwhelmingly positive, with 89% agreeing with the proposals.
The main adjustment to the design as a result of consultation were:
- A multiuse court end has been designed in, with the teen shelter connected adjacent.
- The Play Area equipment has been revised in response to the feedback from park users.
- In the design for the rec, we have added in trees that don't mind wet feet.
- The trim trail has been re-sited away from the wettest area.
- The path will be bitmac with edging, and set slightly above the ground level where the ground is most waterlogged.
The play value of the site increased by 75% upon completion!
