Volunteering at Auntie Pam's
How to become a volunteer at Auntie Pam's
We have different volunteer roles within Auntie Pam's:
- Meet and Greet Volunteer
- Swap Shop Volunteer
- Peer Support Volunteer

You don't need any qualifications for the volunteer roles in Auntie Pam's.
If you would like to become a peer support volunteer, you need to live in Kirklees and have had children. (As this is a peer support service, we only recruit women to the peer support volunteer role). You do not need to meet these criteria for the Meet and Greet Volunteer Role or the Swap Shop Volunteer role.

Volunteering job descriptions
The Role of Meet and Greet Volunteers
As a Meet and Greet Volunteer you will be first point of contact for women and their families using the Auntie Pam's service.
Your main tasks will be
- meeting and greeting clients and their families
- making refreshments
- keeping the Centre clean and tidy
- answering the telephone and taking messages
- maintaining confidentiality
These tasks are not all that you will be doing, however, it is up to you how you wish to develop your own role as a Meet and Greet Volunteer in Auntie Pam's.
You should
- live in the Kirklees area
- have good communication skills
- understand the importance of confidentiality
- be friendly and approachable
- be non-judgemental
- be able to empathise with others
- be able to work as part of a small team as well as on your own
We will provide you with
- full training to undertake the role of a Meet and Greet Volunteer, which will include:-
- safeguarding
- confidentiality
- health and safety
- communication skills
- reimbursement for travel
- opportunities for free training and qualifications
- uniform and identification as an Auntie Pam's Volunteer
An enhanced DBS Check will be undertaken before you can volunteer - costs are met by Auntie Pam's.
The Role of Swap Shop Volunteers
As a Swap Shop Volunteer, you will be first point of contact for women and their families using the Auntie Pam's service.
Your main tasks will be
- meeting and greeting clients and their families
- making refreshments
- keeping the Centre clean and tidy
- receiving donations (clothing, equipment, toys, nappies, toiletries)
- sorting donations
- quality control
- stock check
- maintaining confidentiality
These tasks are not all that you will be doing, however, it is up to you how you wish to develop your own role as a Swap Shop Volunteer in Auntie Pam's.
You should
- live in the Kirklees area
- have good communication skills
- understand the importance of confidentiality
- be friendly and approachable
- be non-judgemental
- be able to empathise with others
- be able to work as part of a small team as well as on your own
We will provide you with
- all training to undertake the role of a Swap Shop Volunteer, which will include:-
- safeguarding
- confidentiality
- health and safety
- communication skills
- reimbursement for travel
- opportunities for free training and qualifications
- uniform and identification as an Auntie Pam's Volunteer

The Role of Peer Support Volunteers
As a Peer Support Volunteer you will be first point of contact for women and their families using the Auntie Pam's service. You will provide support and assist women and their families in making positive lifestyle changes. It's about being there to listen and sharing your own experiences of being a mother.
Your main tasks will be
- giving friendly support and encouragement to clients
- g information and signposting clients to other local services
- keeping client records up to date
- making refreshments for the clients
- maintain confidentiality
- keeping the Centre clean and tidy
- providing Outreach Services in Kirklees
These tasks are not all that you will be doing, it is up to you how you wish to develop your own role as a Peer Support Volunteer.
You should
- have experience of pregnancy and parenthood
- live in the Kirklees area
- have good communication skills
- understand the importance of confidentiality
- be friendly and approachable
- be non-judgemental
- be able to empathise with others
- be willing to undertake Outreach Services in Kirklees
- be able to work as part of a small team as well as on your own
We will provide you with
- Full training to undertake the role of a Peer Support Volunteer, which will include:-
- healthy eating and vitamins
- record keeping
- mental Health
- motivational interviewing
- brief interventions
- key health messages
- safeguarding
- confidentiality
- information, advice and guidance
- nurturing Parent Skills
- health and safety
- information governance
- reimbursement for travel
- opportunities for free training and qualifications
- uniform and identification as an Auntie Pam's Peer Support Volunteer
An enhanced DBS Check will be undertaken before you can volunteer - costs are met by Auntie Pam's.
As a Peer Support Volunteer we would ask a commitment of a minimum of 3 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months (12 months is preferred).
