World Class Music in Kirklees Consultation

What we're doing

To consult about how we can build a world-class music offer that contributes to the identity, economy and communities of Kirklees. The consultation aims to gather information, ideas and insights from a wide range of individuals, groups and organisations working across the whole music spectrum around the district. We also want to hear how people can get involved in the Year of Music 2023 planned to take place across the whole district.

Consultation events will take place on 11 & 16 June 2019. The aim of the consultation sessions is to gather information, ideas and insights from a wide range of individuals, groups and organisations working across the whole music spectrum around the district. Along with updates on some early projects and plans, discussions will be shaped by some of the key themes that have emerged so far.

What happened?

Two consultation sessions took place at the University of Huddersfield (11th June 2019) and Dewsbury Town Hall (18th June 2019). A report was produced by Spirul Ltd following the consultation events.

What difference did the work make?

The consultation sessions enabled approximately 60 music sector representatives from community, commercial, charity and education organisations as well as individual musicians, to share their thoughts, recommended actions and proposals about music in Kirklees. These and the report will feed into developments and plans as we build towards a Year of Music in 2023.
