More information on what we're doing

In October 2020, full Council considered an action plan that sets out how we will tackle inequalities in Kirklees and agreed on the establishment of a Kirklees Inclusion Commission. The plan will be framed around our shared outcomes and encompass actions that address all forms of inequality.

Feedback from our black staff via our BAME Employee Network suggests that local Black African & Caribbean communities do not see Kirklees Council as an employer of choice. We want to change that. We also know that Black communities are disadvantaged in numerous specific ways across the country and we want to play our part in tackling this locally.

Whilst we have an ambition to eradicate all forms of inequality across Kirklees, our priority is to tackle inequalities for our BAME communities, with the particularly pressing priority of tackling inequalities for our Black African & Caribbean communities. These inequalities have been brought sharply into focus by the impact of COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement.
