Nurturing Parent key messages

What we're doing

The Nurturing Parent theme of work is designed to encourage positive outcomes for parents and children through bonding and attachment in the early years. By developing a resource that offers simple actions to achieve this, parents, carers, staff and volunteers will be using a common resource that avoids duplication and is seen as the "go to" information locally. Using a social marketing process, residents and staff/ volunteers will pre-test the content only. Recourse development will be the next stage.

More information on what we're doing

The public will be involved, but not as a general request. Identified community groups and service provider users will be completing the questionnaire, as the more general consultation for information and content was done 4 years ago. This is to confirm the detail of the content, which has more or less been identified as accurate.

What happened?

This questionnaire was developed to look at the wording content of key messages to support a new resource that can help new parents become the best nurturing parent they can be. 42 respondents took part and pre-tested the nurturing parent value statements as well as the suggested actions for each value. There were clear suggestions for altering the wording and meaning of some of the values and actions where people felt the explanations were too vague, or could be misunderstood. The intention is to have this resource as clear and easy to use as possible, so all suggestions made have been considered for change or alteration. The valuable insight that respondents have provided means that this resource will be rooted in common sense from those with lived experience. There was a good range of gender and ages, as well as geographical spread from North and South Kirklees. The next phase, once considerations have been finalised will be to coproduce the physical resource with residents and front line staff. All recipients of the questionnaire were asked if they would like to be involved in Phase two, and a good number put themselves forward.

What difference did the work make?

Finalised the wording for a key messages resource for parents and children as well as professionals and third sector providers. The next phase is to develop the physical aspect of the resource, in coproduction with interested parties.
