Artist Jean McEwan will be exploring people's ideas for a new music and sound space for Huddersfield on Fridays in October and November between 12 – 3pm.

Using an empty stall in Queensgate Market Jean will be doing creative activities and asking questions about music:
- what would you want from a Sound Space?
- what is important to you about music?
- what is your favourite music venue and why?

What happened?

Artist Jean McEwan ran consultation sessions with the public in the Growing cultures spaces in the centre of Queensgate Market. Jean facilitated drop in sessions every Friday 12-3pm for 9 weeks throughout October and November 2019. A range of visually eye catching and engaging methods and materials were designed to invite brief/passing comment and more in-depth responses, conversations and ideas sharing.

The engagement was designed to facilitate conversations around what is important to people about music, and to creatively explore with people what the proposed new Sound Space could be in Huddersfield.

What difference did the work make?

The report and consultation findings will feed into overall plans to create a sound space in Huddersfield

Further consultation was planned for 2020 to keep people informed and engaged about the Sound Space and Music Plans for Kirklees but had to be put on hold due to the coronavirus situation. New ways will be explored to continue future consultation.
