The King's Coronation in Kirklees
People across the country and the Commonwealth are invited to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty The King, Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen Consort, Camilla. Celebration events and activities will take place in Kirklees to mark the historic Coronation of His Majesty The King over the special bank holiday weekend from Saturday 6th May to Monday 8th May 2023.
During the Bank Holiday weekend, buildings across Kirklees will be lit, and flags will be flown to unify the district in celebration.
WOVEN, Kirklees Year of Music, and Dewsbury Taking The Lead are collaborating to coordinate a series of projects within our schools to further add to the decorations of the district. The banner design competition and yarn bombing workshops are both centred around the Coronation emblem design and will decorate St George's Square, Huddersfield for the Coronation. Shape North's banner workshops, led by street artist Trafford Parson's, combined music and art, inspiring children to think about what makes King Charles happy and respond by drawing images of what brings them joy, with the 8 winning schools creating 16 banners to be printed and hung at St. Georges Square by CP Media. WOVEN's yarn bombing workshops focus on the flora of the emblem, and utilises sustainable yarn bombing as part of their 'Growing Colour Together' programme. The work produced will be coupled with the banners in St. Georges Square.
