Birth appointments - what is happening?

These appointments are running as normal in the Town Halls. Availability may be limited at times so please do keep checking our online booking system.

Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, we have strict measures in place for customers and staff, to ensure everyone's safety. These must be adhered to at all times.

If you, or any members of your household have, or start to display, symptoms or self-isolate prior to your appointment, please contact us to cancel it.

Kirklees Council are offering appointments to register births.

Appointments are released 48 hours in advance. We ask for your patience, due to the volume of deferred births, these appointments are filled quickly.

Who can attend

In order to avoid any unnecessary risks, we are limiting the number of people who can attend birth registration appointments to one or two informant/s. If the father's details are to be included in the birth entry and baby's parents were not married to each other when baby was born, they must attend together to affect the registration.

If the parents are married to each other it is only necessary for one of them to attend and due to the current coronavirus pandemic, we request that only one parent does attend.

Safety on site

Please maintain the recommended 2 metre distance at all times during your visit and use the hand sanitiser upon entry and when leaving the building. A member of staff will direct you to a designated waiting area from which the Registrar conducting your appointment will collect you and then escort you to the interview room. Please note that there will be limited access to toilet facilities.

We have installed perspex screens in all our interview rooms and we will be carrying out a thorough cleaning process in between our appointments.

Once your appointment has concluded, the Registrar will direct you out of the building.

Order certificates online

To minimise any risks of transmission of the virus, we are asking customers to order a copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate online. This can be done prior to the appointment or any time after. Alternatively, you can order over the telephone by phoning the relevant register office. All certificates will be posted out by 1st class signed for post. We will not be issuing any certificates during appointments.
