Kirkburton Parish Council

Angela Royle - July 2007
angela.royle@kbpc.co.uk

Kirklees Council are carrying out a review of the five parish and town councils in Kirklees. This is called a 'Community Governance Review'. The review covers: Denby Dale, Mirfield, Meltham, Kirkburton and Holme Valley.

The review opened on the 6th October 2008 with a first phase of consultation, where we asked people to give their views on whether parish and town councils:
  • reflect the identities and interests of the community in their area
  • are effective
  • are convenient.
The 2nd phase consultation is now closed.

The responses received are currently being analysed and a report will be considered by the Corporate Governance and Audit Committee on the 30th June 2009. The committee will then make its recommendations for the future shape of parish councils in the area. The final decision will be taken by all 69 Kirklees councillors at a meeting of the full Council on the 15th July 2009.

Grants
The Parish Council makes application forms available each year from the beginning of September to the end of October. The Grants Committee then meets in November to agree the applications. These have to be approved at the Parish Council meeting, usually in December, and organisations are normally informed of the Council's decision in January. The cheques are drawn at the Parish Council meeting in June.
