Kirklees Council have carried out a review of the five parish and town councils in Kirklees. This was called a 'Community Governance Review'. The review covered: Denby Dale, Mirfield, Meltham, Kirkburton and Holme Valley.

About Kirkburton Parish Council
Fenay Beck Kirkburton Parish Council covers and area of 22sq miles, which takes in 12 villages and has a population of around 25,000 people. There are 25 elected councillors who are elected every four years. The area is divided into 8 wards, with the number of councillors per ward determined by the size of the population. The villages covered are:
  • Farnley Tyas
  • Flockton
  • Grange Moor
  • Highburton
  • Kirkburton
  • Kirkheaton
  • Lascelles Hall
  • Lepton
  • Shelley
  • Shepley
  • Stocksmoor
  • Thurstonland
The council and it's councillors support the residents and community groups as much as possible, both directly and also by providing grants.

It also makes representations on behalf of the residents to the various Kirklees Services, such as planning and highways and also to other agencies such as the Police, NHS, Metro and bus companies, as well as the various Government departments as and when appropriate.

There is a public participation session towards the start of each council and committee meeting, when people are invited to address the council for up to 3 minutes on any issue over which it has a power.

All meetings are open to the public, so come along and listent to the debate.
