| Achievements |
Holme Valley Parish Council is active and increasingly,
proactive. For 25 years it has subsidised, initially on its own, and now in partnership with West Yorkshire
Passenger Transport Executive, local minibus services providing services throughout the valley into Holmfirth
and Honley. It was the first council in Yorkshire to provide such a service. The Holme Valley Minibus services,
operated by Carl Stott and Son, operate on 6 routes with, mainly, hourly services from around 9 o'clock in the
morning to tea-time, Mondays to Saturdays.
The Parish Council also provides and maintains public seats and bus shelters throughout the valley. It has an
annual programme of improvements to play areas in its area in conjunction with Kirklees MC. 2006-07 saw the
completion of two play areas in the Holme Valley - one brand new one at Oakes Avenue, Brockholes, and improvements
to the existing play area at Oldfield, Honley.
The Parish Council also works in partnership with Kirklees MC Holme Valley North and South Area Committees and
Holme Valley Business Association to improve the appearance of its area, and provides Christmas trees throughout
the area.
It uses its power under section 137 of the Local Government Act 1972 to give grants to community organisations,
schools and other groups to assist in projects which the Members feel will be of benefit to the valley.

| News |
In March 2003, Central Government announced the
introduction of a Quality Council scheme whereby local councils which met certain standards would be accredited
as "Quality Parishes". Holme Valley Parish Council became a Quality Council in January 2006, the second in the
Kirklees area, the fifth in West Yorkshire and the 250th in England. Its quarterly newsletter won third place in
the national Newsletter of the Year competition 2006, awarded by the National Association of Local Councils and
the Co-operative Bank. An Annual Report is issued and distributed each summer, and the council's own website was
launched in Autumn 2005 - see
www.holmevalleyparishcouncil.gov.uk.
There are also opportunities on the website to download the council's publications, and grant forms. The council
will also use the website to gain residents' views through an online voting system.
It is hoped that residents of the Holme Valley will take every chance of contacting their local council and their
councillors to ensure that the Parish Council meets its claim of being the tier of local government "Closest to the People".
