The Full Council meeting provides a regular opportunity for all of the 69 Councillors in Kirklees to meet together to discuss issues of concern and to review the work of the Cabinet and the Overview & Scrutiny Committee.

The Council acts as community leader, determining policy and agreeing the overall community strategies and key plans for the Kirklees area.

The responsibilities of the full Council include:
  • Considering and agreeing new policies
  • Approving the budget and spending plans of the Council and its services
  • Challenging the Cabinet and holding it to account
  • Considering the work of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee
  • Representation of local community interests
  • Providing leadership for the community
  • Encouraging public participation in decision making
