Kirklees Council area committees are made up of ward councillors and partner agencies that provide the
residents of Kirklees with the opportunity to make a contribution on issues which affect their local
community.
What do area committees do?
Work with communities to identify the areas issues and needs.
Develop actions that address the most important issues through partnerships with other service providers and agencies.
Scrutinise local services and make sure these are accountable to local people.
All area committees have produced a community action plan through talking with their community and the
service providers working in their area. Across Kirklees a number of common themes have been
identified for action:
Community engagement
Young people
Environment
Community safety
Highways
Town centre/regeneration
Health/active lifestyle
In order to progress these actions the area committees lead on a range of projects including activities
for young people, play areas, litter/graffiti removal, improvements to street lighting, events to promote
health and volunteering.

The area committees have been provided with guidance documents that provide a framework for them to develop
a strategy to encourage people to get involved in the work of the area committee and in the identification
of actions that need to be perfromed when improving your area.
