We are currently converting our network of libraries into
Library and Information Centres where you can access most council services in a friendly, face to face library
environment. This conversion programme complements existing or converted Kirklees Information Points.

Services
The main services provided in Huddersfield and Dewsbury incorporates Social Services (including Blue Badges, concessionary
travel passes); Revenues and Benefits (including council tax, housing benefits); Kirklees Passports (including dog
neutering vouchers); and Housing Needs (including homeless unit, tenancy relations, private sector
housing unit).
In Huddersfield there is also the Community Contact Resource Centre (providing advice to customers whose first language is
not English). The Information Points are also able to assist customers requiring legal advice and hold the Community Legal Service
Quality Mark for assisted customer service.
Both have interpretation facilities for non-English speaking customers and there are surgeries for deaf
people. There are free phones for customers to contact other council departments. There is disabled access and
parking nearby.

Chestnut Centre, Deighton
This Centre operates in partnership with Fresh Horizons and as well as providing both library and information services, the Centre also offers access for the local community to Housing services, the police, and a children's centre and health advice.

The Centre boasts a traditional library service, including free use of public access computers and internet, with a self issue
book facility. The information desk also operates a bill payment service as well as the provision of advice and guidance
on a variety of other council services. A free phone allows customers direct access to other council departments.
The partner, Fresh Horizons, also offers access to many other services including housing, the police, a children centre and
health advice. A community cafe provides a comfortable area to relax and enjoy the visit. Rooms are available for
hire.

This information point also operates a bill payment service by cheque or by card (please note there is no facility for cash payments at this venue). The provision of advice and guidance on a variety of other council services. Verification service for housing applications and council tax benefits, blue badge applications and free school meals. Local planning information. An issuing service is available for Kirklees Passports (applicants need to provide their own photographs) and dog/cat neutering vouchers. Please ensure the correct documentation is provided. There is the facility to post letters confidentially to other council departments. A free phone allowing customers direct access to other council departments. Photocopying and Fax facilities. Daily newspapers. Bookstart baby packs and the operation of the bookstart reading promotion. Information leaflets. A pleasant reading garden.

Services
A full Kirklees Passport issuing facility is offered together with proof verification for housing and council tax
benefits, blue badge applications, and free school meals.
There is also a post box where the public can post letters confidentially to the police regarding any information they may have or unresolved issues .
In addition, assistance with other general council queries, plus excellent tourism information with an emphasis
on local outdoor activities such as walking and cycling.
