The Kirklees Approach to preparing for CPA
Performance and Communication - October 2007
performance.communication@kirklees.gov.uk
Kirklees prides itself on being a mature, open and responsive organisation. In that spirit we have put together an area of the website to share our CPA preparation and experiences.
We worked hard over many months to make sure that the Kirklees story came across clearly under the pressure of external inspection. We produced ‘Big Picture’ Storyboards illustrating our success and the outcomes achieved for local people. These storyboards were key elements of our evidence file.
The on site inspection experience was an example of Kirklees at its very best: well organised, imaginative, mutually supportive and energised.
Since our first corporate assessment in 2002 we took action to strengthen our corporate support. For example we made significant improvements to performance management and introduced strong project management disciplines across the Council.
In May 2007 we drafted our own Corporate Self-Assessment. This is this key document that the inspectors came to test out in June 2007. In March 2007 we presented to the Corporate Assessment / Joint Area Assessment team to set the scene and introduce Kirklees.
We recognised the importance of the CPA tour. We were keen to get across the immense diversity of Kirklees. We linked the tour route to our ambition and to our Big Picture storyboards.
