Council policy, procedure and standard licences

Corporate Information Management - October 2007
ikm@kirklees.gov.uk

This page provides access to the council's policy and procedure on licensing the re-use of council information. The council's re-use licences are also made available. It is not necessary to read these documents prior to making a request for re-use but you may find it helps you to formulate your request.

Licensing the Re-use of Council Information Policy

This sets out the council's policy on licensing the re-use of its information. It sets out how the council will exercise its rights to licence re-use under copyright legislation and comply with the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005.

The policy has been designed to be fair, consistent and transparent. It is hoped that it will encourage the re-use of the council's information and increase public access to information, complementing the access rights under the Freedom of Information Act.

Licensing the Re-use of Council Information Procedure

The procedure describes how the re-use licensing process works in the council and is essentially an internal administrative document. It is provided here in the spirit of openness and to give potential applicants further information on how their requests will be processed. Details of the process that applicants need to follow and the expectations on the applicant are provided on the requesting permission for re-use page.

Re-use licences

The council uses two different licences to licence re-use. The first is the Non-commercial Sharing Licence that allows non-commercial re-use of some council documents. The second is the council's Standard Re-use Licence which is used to licence any re-use that is granted through the re-use application process. It is important to remember that this is a standard licence and as such is a template that is adapted to meet the particular circumstances before being issued.
