Leader of Kirklees Council, Councillor Robert Light
The Leader's Office - June 2007
the.leader@kirklees.gov.uk
It is a tremendous privilege to be the Leader of the Council - it comes with the responsibility of running a multi
million pound organisation and being accountable to 400,000 residents.
Since we have been running the council, the Conservative administration has implemented many initiatives - to name
a few: the Kirklees Youth Games for our youngsters, Council Tax discounts for our pensioners, and Warmzone Plus
for everyone.
We have also developed a four part ambition for the council to strive to achieve - Kirklees to be Diverse, Young,
Green and Economically Strong. Our ambitions are detailed in full elsewhere on the council's website on
the Big Picture so I will not dwell on them here.
It is my aim as Leader, and the shared aim of the Conservative administration, to provide value for money - that
means high quality services run efficiently without excessive Council Tax increases. At the same time we want
Kirklees to be a vibrant place for our residents to live and work, attractive for visitors encouraging them to
return, and safe for all.
I want Kirklees to be the best run council, delivering the best services for the people of the borough. Kirklees
is a great place, constantly improving and has a council committed to meeting the future challenges of the borough.
