Winter maintenance is an important role for our Highways and Transportation Service. We carry out winter maintenance to allow all road users to move about as safely as possible and to help minimise delays caused by adverse weather conditions.

Our winter maintenance service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is in place whenever the weather demands.

Weather update (Last updated: 09/02/2016 15:01:46)

Some bright spells at first this afternoon but also a lot of cloud and some patchy rain and hill sleet/snow. Any snow is not expected to settle but could allow RSTs to dip briefly. Further rain and hill sleet/snow this evening but snow heights will rise as less cold air moves in for a time. This rain/sleet should clear south by around midnight with clear spells developing through the second half of the night. However, one or two wintry showers may continue into the early hours, most likely in the north. Increasingly cold towards morning with a north-westerly breeze.Tomorrow will be a cold day but largely dry with long sunny spells. A dry, cold evening with mostly clear skies. Snow Summary This afternoon/evening: Occasional snow showers possible above 300-350m but are unlikely to settle. After dark, a brief slushy covering is possible on the highest routes but snow height will rise through the evening.
