Charlotte Brontë used Oakwell Hall, Birstall, as a model for 'Fieldhead', home of her heroine in "Shirley". Built in 1583, this Elizabethan manor house has delighted visitors for centuries. Today's visitors can gain an insight into living in the 17th century or take a stroll in the adjacent award winning Country Park, which covers 100 acres of the original estate. Take a picnic in the park or sample the homemade delights at the Oak Tree Café.
