Towns and villages

Uncover more about our most popular tourist destinations. Take a 360° virtual tour of stunning landmarks and beautiful countryside, and if you still want to know more our Tourist Information Centre staff are always happy to help.

Visit the market town Holmfirth, famous for Last of the Summer Wine and rich in textile history. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, including the Peak District National Park, the area around Holmfirth offers a wealth of art galleries, unusual gift shops and traditional villages.

Enjoy the Colne Valley, and the villages of Marsden and Slaithwaite. Home to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and Standedge tunnel, the valley was the filming location for the popular TV series Where the Heart Is. Equally rural is the area around Denby Dale, a traditional village set in rolling countryside. Known as the 'Pie Village', you can explore areas far away from bustling town centres.

To the north, discover the Brontė connections of Dewsbury, Batley and Spen Valley. Admire the rich textile heritage of these market towns, and take a trip to the beautifully restored mills along the Yorkshire Mill Mile.

Visit the vibrant University town of Huddersfield, home to impressive architecture, quality high street shopping, and a wealth of events and festivals. Huddersfield is home to the Galpharm Stadium, which has played host to the likes of REM and Bryan Adams, as well as Castle Hill - the oldest iron age hill fort in Yorkshire.
