Events and festivals
Huddersfield is now well known for its award winning festivals and growing artistic reputation. Music lovers can enjoy religious and contemporary music by the world famous Huddersfield Choral Society, or join thousands of others at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival now one of the most important and respected contemporary music festivals in the world.
When a 19th century chapel was transformed, the stage was brought to life with The Lawrence Batley Theatre's rich and lively programme of drama, dance and comedy throughout the year.
The Huddersfield Food and Drink festival is a four day celebration of tempting fare, wines, liqueurs and beers with live cookery demonstrations of your favourite dishes.
Huddersfield Art Gallery has an excellent permanent collection of British Art, including works by Francis Bacon and Henry Moore, and the Media Centre's offers contemporary photography and media exhibitions in their lounge gallery.
Huddersfield itself is filled with many live music nights and events in the variety of bars, pubs and clubs throughout town.

Things to see and do
- The grand railway station: a fine example of Victorian architecture was once described by Sir John Betjeman
as "a stately home with trains running through it".
- The Galpharm Stadium: winner of a RIBA Building of the Year Award for it's pioneering design and home to
Huddersfield.
- Shopping - enjoy Kingsgate or the elegant Victorian arcades such as the Byram Aracade or Standard House.
