Events and festivals


  • May: Pennine Festival of Music and Dance, featuring top names in folk, ceilidhs, performances, workshops and events at venues throughout the village.
  • July: Holmfirth Art Week including numerous exhibitions and sales.
  • Monthly: Farmer's market where everything is grown, raised, baked or caught locally.

Things to see and do


  • Last of the Summer Wine Exhibition, plus other Summer Wine settings including Nora Batty's steps and Sid's Café.
  • Art and craft galleries, including the gallery of Ashley Jackson, famed Yorkshire landscape artist.
  • Craft and Treasure Market, each Saturday (March-December), featuring hand-crafted goods, antiques, collectables and memorabilia.
  • Picturedrome, former home of the Bamforth family who made early silent films and saucy seaside postcards, this building is now a restored cinema. See examples of the postcards in the upstairs, or purchase reproductions from the Tourist Information Centre.
  • Crag Rats Theatre - catch a performance of theatre, music or comedy at this studio theatre.
  • Take a stroll on the Holme Valley Riverside Walk a 6 mile route from Magdale near Honley, through Holmfirth and onto Digley.
  • The national Pennine Cycleway runs through Holmfirth so if you're feeling active cycle to your hearts content!
