The Spen Valley is an attractive mix of small towns and villages, Batley and Dewsbury in particular, well known for their historical links.

Steeped in the rich history of the Brontës, Luddites and Chartists, the Spen Valley's woollen industry heritage is in evidence in the towns of Cleckheaton, Heckmondwike, Gomersal and Birstall. Batley, Birstall and Dewsbury are renowned for their history and textile heritage with the valley's woollen industry still in evidence today. Dewsbury, Batley & Spen Valley events

Events in Batley, Dewsbury and Cleckheaton run throughout the year with continental markets, fairs and festivals. The mixed renaissance style building, Dewsbury Town Hall first opened in 1889. Today it is host to music concerts and theatre productions.

Shop to your heart's content along The Yorkshire Mill Mile between Batley and Dewsbury. Beautifully restored mills and buildings are home to a huge range of quality home furnishings and discounted designer goods. The retail park at Birstall offers the best in high street shopping with cinema complex and restaurants providing entertainment.
Bringing Beijing to Dewsbury

Sunday 24th August 1pm – 4pm Dewsbury Town Centre

This unique and exciting event marks the handover of the Beijing Olympic Games 2008 to London for the 2012 Olympics. To celebrate there will be a myriad of cultural activities including Olympic sports, Chinese Musicians and many things to try and experience in Dewsbury Town Centre
