Denby Dale

Denby Dale, a large village set in rolling countryside and famed as the 'Pie Village' after the huge pies made to celebrate special events. The tradition began with the baking of a pie to celebrate the recovery of George III from illness. The most recent, was a 12-tonne pie created to celebrate the Millennium. Read more about this in Denby Dale history.

Denby Dale and the surrounding villages offer attractive shops, restaurants and cafes. Experience mill shopping on a smaller scale at Springfield Mills, well worth a visit for all the family. Visit Armitages Pennine Garden Centre in Shelley, which boasts a wide range of plants, flowers and unusual gifts. Visitors can take a break from browsing to enjoy home-cooked food at the centre's Café 1842. The centre also hosts an annual firework display.
