Denby Dale
Denby Dale, a large village set in rolling countryside and famed as the 'Pie Village' after the huge pies made to
celebrate special events. The tradition began with the baking of a pie to celebrate the recovery of George III
from illness. The most recent, was a 12-tonne pie created to celebrate the Millennium. Read more about this in

Denby Dale and the surrounding villages offer attractive shops, restaurants and cafes. Experience mill shopping on
a smaller scale at
Springfield Mills, well worth a visit for all the family. Visit Armitages Pennine Garden Centre
in Shelley, which boasts a wide range of plants, flowers and unusual gifts. Visitors can take a break from
browsing to enjoy home-cooked food at the centre's Café 1842. The centre also hosts an annual firework
display.
There is always something to do in the Denby Dale area. Take a trip on the Kirklees Light Railway for a stunning
journey across the Dearne Valley taking in views of Emley Moor TV mast, Blacker Wood and travel through the longest
tunnel of a narrow gauge railway in Britain.
