If you enjoy a spot of retail therapy, you won't be disappointed. Kirklees has shops to suit all tastes, from
high street stores to small artists' galleries, markets to mill shops.
Huddersfield is the main shopping area for high street shopping with the prestigious Kingsgate centre, familiar
high street stores, the distinctive Byram Arcade, and designer shops.
For markets, there is a great choice. Huddersfield and Dewsbury host the largest markets, with smaller ones held
in Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike. Farmer's markets are held monthly in many towns across the
district, selling locally produced cheese, vegetables pies and meats.
Marsden and Holmfirth are home to an attractive selection of art and craft galleries, artists' studios, and gift
shops. Take a tour of Booth House Gallery, a
beautifully converted early 19th century barn which contains a
stunning range of hand crafted ceramics, artworks and paintings.
Equally enchanting explore the area's vast mill shops. These majestic buildings are enjoying a renaissance;
refurbished, re-styled and re-invested, they are now home to super-stylish stores, specialist retailers and cool
eateries.
