Historic houses
Kirklees historic houses are amongst the most visited tourist attractions in the region. All reflect the history of, and provide insight into the region and their owners.
Oakwell Hall is where you can find out why Charlotte Bronte described the house as "crayon touches and sepia lights and shades" in 'Shirley'. Or spend the day exploring 100 acres of the original estate or wandering in a 17th Century garden restoration.
Red House is where you can discover a fascinating history of Bronte connections, each room bringing you closer to Regency England.
Longley Old Hall is a mixture of 14th and 15th Century architecture and described as "an architectural goldmine" by Sir Simon Jenkins in 'England's Thousand Best Houses'.
