The stunning towns, villages and scenery of Kirklees are no stranger to the limelight and have been used as settings for of a number of television and film scenes.

Dewsbury Town Hall has often been in the spotlight. Its authentic Victorian interior has featured in Emmerdale, A Touch of Frost and The Darling Buds of May and the hall and courtroom was used for the film Blow Dry, a comedy set in the 1970s about the highs and lows of a regional hairdressing competition.

The infamous 'local shop' which featured in the comedy series The League of Gentlemen was constructed as an artificial set on the hills above Marsden.

Based in a northern village, most of the filming was completed in Hadfield near Glossop but several scenes featured the countryside of Marsden, the Colne Valley and Holme Moor near Holmfirth.

Distress Signals premiered at the Edinburgh film festival in 1998 and was set entirely in Huddersfield Town Centre. This short comedy about the perils of computer dating used Greenhead Park, Huddersfield Job Centre, a local florist and many other Huddersfield locations.

The comedy Duncan Wayne: World Number One tells the life story of an international road racer's ambition. Several scenes were shot in the north of the district including an actual marathon in Dewsbury.
