M62 Junction 27 improvements

Ross Street Care - February 2008
highways.ross@kirklees.gov.uk

Improvement works to ease congestion at the M62 Junction 27 at Gildersome started on the 31 January 2008 and will last for around 9 months.

The Highways Agency are improving both the north and south roundabouts at the Gildersome interchange, one of the busiest motorway junctions in the region to provide a safer and more reliable journey for drivers and safer access for pedestrians and cyclists.

The improvement works include:
  • Alterations to the access and exit motorway slip roads
  • The installation of traffic signals at the northern roundabout to increase capacity
  • Signals will also be installed at the southern end of the roundabout which will be partially increased to 4 lanes
  • A combined pedestrian footway and cycleway is proposed running north to south ending at the signal crossing at the Showcase roundabout
  • Introduction of a 30 mph speed limit
  • Resurfacing and improvements to traffic signals and road markings
To minimise delays during construction two lanes of traffic will be maintained through the junction each day from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm.

Any necessary lane closures will be carried out at night.

Diversion routes will be clearly signed in advance.

To make sure both motorists and roadworkers are safe a 30 mph speed limit will operate around the junction and on each approach road.
