KBUG is a forum campaigning to promote the interests of Kirklees Council employees and associates (members of the public) who cycle. The Coordinator is Chris Wilby. Whether you commute to work or cycle for leisure we need
your support.
Those who wish to cycle or have an interest in cycling are welcome to join this group. It's free and
provides advice, help and support.
Cycling facilities at the workplace, problems of highway design, or any other cycling related matter is
important to us.
KBUG was formed by the Kirklees Council Cycling Development Officer in February 1998.

The KBUG stand at the Kirklees Council Focus For Change event
The council networks met to display and talk about their achievements
and their hopes for the future. KBUG is one and with it comes the
employees allowance to attend meetings using works time.

The bike breakfast invites new and existing commuters to have a free breakfast.
This temptation attempts to show how easy it is to commute by bike. We plan to have one every year.
CTC(Cycle Touring Club) Training provided by the Highways Road Safety Team. Chris Wilby and
Keith Hamnett have achieved level 3 of the National Cycle Training Awards from the
CTC(Cycle Touring Club - Britain's largest cycling organisation). Mohammed Sharif has achieved
level 2 and Lindy Paxton has achieved level 1. See photos of the training in progress.

KBUG have organised three workshops for its members to work on their own bikes led by qualified CY
TECH cycle mechanics. These include learning about Brakes, Tyres, and Gears.
The sessions have been a great success, pictures of the Tyres session are shown below. See the

KBUG won the Bronze Award in the Green category of the council's ONE awards. We have gone the extra mile in
delivering excellent service. We received the award for improving facilities and safety for people who
commute to work across Kirklees, and for encouraging over 100 more people to join KBUG last year.
Comments on the highway network
Comments on the highway network, e.g. pot holes, lighting, blocked drains, worn out white lining,
sweeping of cycle lanes and other issues should all be reported to ROSS - Kirklees Street Care via the
Service Request Form.

We hope that you will be able to try a car/bus/or rail assisted commute to work
and in return gain some exercise, save CO2, save on parking fees, and pass by
congestion. If you are not using the bike for commuting then we hope it will
introduce you to our world of cycling pleasure, and we can provide a lock,

KBUG has a bike camera that can be used to record your journey or your
excursion, it can record details of danger hotspots in traffic or promote off
