Cycling - Public meetings

These meetings are for any existing and 'would-be' cyclists, and those interested in cycling, to discuss current issues around cycling provision in Kirklees and to disseminate information on relevant schemes and promotional initiatives. See the Terms of Reference of the meeting drawn up in 1999.

Meetings are held 4 times a year. The Chair of the meeting is Councillor Martyn Bolt (Mirfield ward member) and Kirklees Highways & Transportation Service provides administrative support.

Meetings are held on Monday evenings from 7.30 - 9pm. Attendance is free.

The meetings are rotated around different venues, e.g. Huddersfield and Dewsbury Sports Centres, Cleckheaton Town Hall. A venue may be chosen for its proximity to the location of a scheme that is particularly topical, e.g. a Greenway scheme.

Terms of reference
Decided at a public meeting, 19th July 1999.

Purpose
To act as a forum for discussing, and disseminating information on all cycling related issued with cyclists, those commercially and voluntarily involved with cycling and those wishing to cycle.

In particular:
  • The Kirklees Cycling Strategy, and the Cycling Action Plans
  • Cycling projects and promotional activities
  • Problems faced by cyclists and barriers to cycling
  • Requirements for new facilities for cyclists
Attendance
It is intended that the following people will attend:
  • Anyone with an interest in cycling, and cycling issues
  • Councillors with an interest in cycling and cycling related issues
  • Representatives of all Cycling Organisations in the District (cycle sport, amenity, BMX, Bicycle User Groups (BUGs) etc.)
  • Appropriate officers from Highways, Planning, Leisure & Recreation Services, plus officers from other Services as appropriate.
Meeting times, frequency and location
Evening meetings held every 4 months in Huddersfield or Dewsbury Town Halls. The meetings last no longer than one and a half hours.
