For the period
September 2008 (Revised)
Working areas
The Working Areas Plan has been developed to give you an idea of where the works will be taking place and how to negotiate your way through them. The areas shown will be reduced where ever possible and temporary seating areas provided.
As works progress the newly laid flagged areas will remain fenced off until their foundations have reached the required strength, the grouting between the flags has been placed and the cleaning / final sealing coat has been applied. This may take up to a month.
Vehicular access
Following the traffic movement changes of June 3rd all non essential traffic is now banned from St Georges Square.
Railway Street is closed to all vehicles except buses, taxis and access to businesses and the train station drop off point. The train station car park is not accessible from the Railway Street approach.
Access to the train station car park and the George Hotel is possible via the ring road junctions with Viaduct Street, Northumberland Street & John Williams Street (St Johns Road). Motorists are advised to approach Northumberland Street and St Johns Road anti-clockwise off the ring road to make use of the left turn traffic filters.
The South Plaza (in front of the Head of Steam) will be closed to traffic whilst the new carriageway is constructed. See below for revised Taxi and disabled parking provisions. Access to St George Street shall be maintained.
Need help planning your route? Check out the Street Plan which shows the One-way Systems, Pedestrian Zones and the Car Parks.
Road closures
Railway Street will be closed from September 29th for approximately a week. The closure will be in affect from Westgate to John Williams Street. Access to the train station shall remain as it is presently, via John Williams Street, as indicated on the Street Plan. The closure is part of an essential Yorkshire Electricity network upgrade and includes extensive carriageway excavations. Buses will be diverted on alternative routes and passengers should contact the bus operators to check new routes.
St George's Street (the one-way street from the Head of Steam up to Westgate) shall be closed to traffic from September 22nd for approximately a month and a half in order to replace the carriageway setts.
A revised Working Area Plan will be issued prior to these closures.
Businesses with concerns over access should contact the Site Office for further information.
Pedestrian routes
Pedestrian routes are diverted locally around the working areas as defined on the Working Area Plan. Should you have any special requirements please call Wrekin at the St Georges Square Revival office.
Access to the train station is via a purpose built ramp on the north east corner of the station steps. The existing ramp to the south west can be used to access the footway in front of the Head of Steam and on towards the St George's Street.
