Web Development - February 2012

In some parts of this site, you can contribute your own comments, images and other information. When you use these features, please follow this advice to stay safe online.
Be wary
Remember that posting your own content on this site is like making a public announcement. Everyone can see that information, not just the person you have been talking to or are responding to.
People you meet online may not be who they seem. They can post information about themselves which may not be true and encourage you to build up a picture of them which is misleading.
Don't give out personal details
This includes things like:
-
Your full name.
-
Your home address and postcode.
-
Your telephone number (including your mobile).
-
Your email address (including Hotmail or webmail addresses).
Sometimes you might want to publish your contact details - for example, if you are organising an event and you want people to call and book a place in advance. Think carefully before you put these details online - don't do it unless you really need to.
If a moderator feels that you are giving out personal details unnecessarily, your post will be removed. If you are worried about other users giving out personal information, please contact the moderator or editor for whichever part of this site you are using.
Don't give too much detail
Take care when giving out information that could help someone to locate you. This could be details of your school, your neighbourhood or any clubs and societies that you belong to.
Tell us if you are worried
If another user is abusive to you or makes you feel uncomfortable, please contact us straight away. Try to explain the situation as clearly as you can, so that we can investigate.
