Moderation explained
Web Development - March 2008
web.development@kirklees.gov.uk
We encourage users to share their own comments and information on this web site. Content from our users includes:
News
- You can use our online news pages to share your news, comments, photos, videos and audio content.
Forums
- You can use our discussion forums to share your comments and ideas with other people who live or work in Kirklees.
Local organisations
- You can use our local organisations pages to publicise your community group or voluntary organisation.
Events
- You can use our events pages to publicise your local activities and events.
When you submit your content to this web site, it may be checked by a 'moderator'. It is the moderator's job to make sure that the information is suitable for publishing online. All contributions to this site must comply with our
User content rules.
Moderation methods
We use three different moderation methods on this web site:
Full moderation
When content is fully moderated, it is always checked and approved by a moderator before appearing on the site. Full moderation is also known as pre-moderation.
Reactive moderation
When content is reactively moderated, it appears on the site straight away. The moderator reviews new content at regular intervals to make sure that users are complying with the rules. Any inappropriate content can be edited or removed. Reactive moderation is also known as post-moderation.
User moderation
When content is user moderated, participants all share in the job of moderating. Content appears on the site straight away, but users can alert the administrators to offensive or inappropriate material.
We try to use reactive moderation wherever possible, although some areas of this site are fully moderated. Where users can post their comments directly onto the site, we also encourage user moderation. There is a link to 'Report this comment as offensive' next to every comment in our online news pages. There is also a 'Report this post' button next to every comment in our discussion forums (look for the triangle containing an exclamation mark).
Please help us to keep this site lively and relevant by sharing your comments and information, and by reporting any content that you find offensive.
