  • Finding birth relatives and your history
    This section will give information on applying for Adoption certificates; receiving information on original birth details, and making contact with adopted people and their relatives.
  • Obtaining birth certificates

    UK Certificates (external)
    UK Certificates operate a specialist documentation service acquiring birth, death and marriage certificates and information from the appropriate Government Offices on behalf of UK and Overseas clients for a competitive fee.

    Available weekdays 10.00am - 9.00pm
    After Adoption's ACTIONline is a free, confidential helpline for anyone whose life has been affected by adoption. Alternatively you can contact them by email on information@afteradoption.org.uk

    Get in touch with PACT to share your opinions about adoption, tell your own story or perhaps you've read a good book or article that you think others may be interested in.

Benefits Payments and Tax

  • Payments to foster carers
    An allowance is provided to cover; household costs, food, clothes, travel, school dinners and any other things that may be required to look after a child.
  • Payments to adopters
    Adopters do not generally receive payment. However payments can be made available to assist with the adoption of hard to place children.
  • Child Benefit (external)
    Adopters may apply for child benefit. Foster carers receive the equivalent amount in with their payment from the local authority
  • Income Tax
    Recent changes have been announced regarding the taxation of foster carers. Information from Inland Revenue.
