There are various opportunities to get involved in throughout Kirklees. There are a range of activities to volunteer in from sport specific to multi sport activities. These sessions occur at various times throughout the year from weekly sessions to activities during the holiday period to one off events. These opportunities also vary in time allowing people who work certain hours to volunteer around their work. These times can vary from during the day, evenings and weekends. The age groups for these activities also vary which allows you to volunteer with young people or adults or even both if that is what you are interested in. We also try our best to develop volunteers whether that is through in house training or external courses. We believe in giving something back to those volunteers as a reward for their commitment to volunteering with the council.

- Mend – Physical Activity and nutrition
Depending on the volunteer opportunity they can develop the following:
- Communication skills
- Social Skills
- Qualifications and training
- Experience in a sport and physical activity setting
The volunteer will also:
- Be able to make new friends
- Have a sense of giving back to the community
- Enhance their CV
One volunteer started as an assistant to a jog Kirklees session. After building up his confidence he attended a jog leaders course and now leads a jog Kirklees session in Greenhead Park.
Another volunteer came to us who had mild learning difficulties (MLD) Through volunteering on the holiday schemes he has developed his confidence in working with young people and now looks forward to volunteering during the holiday period. During the holiday periods he regularly volunteers.
