Tolson Museum

At Tolson Museum we cater for the learning needs of everyone from early years to lifelong learners;
we offer formal education programmes for schools to research facilities for independent learners.
Tolson Museum houses a unique collection of artefacts that date from pre history to the Victorians as well as a fine natural history collection of historic importance. We also have a Victorian classroom with wooden desks and blackboard and an exhibition of historic vehicles. 
A Victorian Childhood
A roleplay experience for pupils studying the Victorians and local history. 
Transported Through Time
Use our historic vehicles to uncover aspects of history, science and design and technology. 
Early years:
Ronnie the Raven's Puzzlepath Interactive play for the under 5s with sound, stories, smells, pictures and puzzles. 
Key Stage 3 and 4:
Bird Room with worksheet Seth Lister Mosley was the first curator of Tolson Museum. His most notable display is the Bird Room which can still be seen today. 
Lifelong learning
Courses organised by the WEA (Workers Education Association) are held on a regular basis at the museum please see the latest issue of It's Happening for details. 
 Relic Hunters (PDF 533kb)
A challenge for children to complete when visiting the museum. Inspired by the British Museum and CBBC series Relic: Guardians of the Museum. 
Additional resources
A support materials box is available to loan for schools who have booked the Victorian Schoolroom session. Period toys are available for children to play with at lunch time. |
