Car parking

Spaces for disabled users are provided in both car parks. Should you have specific needs or are travelling in a large vehicle please contact the staff who can arrange parking closer to buildings and facilities or arrange a drop-off and pick-up site.

Access from both car parks to the buildings is on tarmac and hard-standing and is considered suitable for all users.

A low gradient tarmac surfaced path (1/3 mile) connects the two car parks and thus allows access to the Hall area from the Countryside Centre and Play Area car park. A RADAR key is necessary to pass through a gate if you are a user of a medium to large mobility scooter. This route is shown in blue on the site maps available in the download section.

Oakwell Hall

Due to the historic nature of the building, full access for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues cannot be provided to the upper floor. Stairs, low doorways and uneven surfaces may limit access for some visitors.

The lower floor is fully accessible by wheelchair users with level access to the building from the car park.

A large print room guide can be provided upon request, though we regret Braille guides are not yet available.

Visitor Centre

The Visitor Centre is accessible and provides a toilet for disabled visitors, the Barn area (used for events and weddings) is also accessible.

Cafe

The café has external seating provided for wheelchair users, the inside is accessible, but can be very crowded on busy days with no seating reserved for wheelchair or scooter users. The café does not have toilet facilities, these are located in the courtyard of the Visitor Centre.

Gardens and Park

Every effort has been made to allow easier access to the Formal Gardens and the Park, access for mobility scooter users and wheelchair users is possible to the gardens via ramps. Access to the wider Park and areas surrounding the Gardens is possible, with low gradient routes without steps being shown on the easier access map.

During cold and wet weather paths may become muddy in places.

Countryside Centre and Play area

The Play Area

The Centre is fully accessible with two disabled access toilets and easy access on tarmac paths to the picnic tables and nearby play area.

This facility was designed with the needs of able-bodied and disabled children and carers in mind. The rubber crumb surface is soft yet allows for wheelchair access. Wider ramps and a cradle swing offer play opportunities to children with increased mobility needs.

Access to the Countryside Centre car park is restricted by a barrier to vehicles under 2m (6'6"). Access for minibuses and so forth can be arranged upon request.
