Arts and Creative Economy Development Unit - Who's who

The ACE (arts and Creative Economy) team is made up of two units:

The Civic Centre 1 team - who's who

The The Civic Centre 1 team has responsibility for developing and managing grant aid programmes, festivals and community events and music programmes in town halls and parks and developing support for creative social enterprises, commercial businesses and amateur arts groups.


Adele Poppleton
Arts & Creative Economy Development Manager

Adele manages the team. She is responsible for ensuring it operates effectively and leads on strategy development and planning. At the moment, she is also lead on the delivery of events and the music programmes.

Jon Rust
Senior Development Officer - Creative Economy

Jon works with artists (both professional and voluntary) andcreative businesses - commercial, non-profit distributing and voluntary - whether they are starting out, growing or relocating. He ensures the right environment is created to enable them to flourish in Kirklees, developing initiatives to provide finance, workspace, training, networking opportunities and business support.

George Matheson
Diversity Arts Officer (1 1/2 days per week)

George works with diverse artists and arts organisations from BME (Black and ethnic minorities) backgrounds in Kirklees, providing them with specialist support, advice and guidance. George works closely with Huddersfield and Deighton Carnivals and coordinates Kirklees Diversity Season - an annual programme of arts and cultural activities that promotes Kirklees' rich cultural activities and events (September - December each year).

Jennifer Dodson
Grants Administrator (workdays: Monday and Tuesday)

Jennifer is responsible for administering the Creative Partners Investment Programme and the Arts in the Neighbourhood grant scheme. She also provides administrative and project support to the Arts and Creative Development Unit.

Roz Garthwaite
Arts and Creative Economy Support Officer

Roz provides organisational and administrative support to the Arts & Creative Economy Development Team; deals with incoming enquiries, helps with the organisation of events, keeps the finances in order being responsible for ordering, procurement, processing invoices and budget control; and anything else to help ensure the office runs smoothly! Roz also manages the Summer Brass season of concerts which are held in parks and museum gardens around Kirklees.

Loca - who's who

Loca manages projects which use the arts as intervention measures to address issues such as business development, community cohesion, emotional literacy and environmental improvement.


Tracy Shaw
Project Director

Tracy directs all the Loca team's day-to-day work and is responsible for the growth and development of Loca's work with Kirklees diverse communities. Tracy leads on developing strategies, partnerships and new project initiatives to fulfil Loca's mission - which is "to put arts and creativity at the heart of local regeneration".

Adele Jackson
Projects Manager (Creative Communities)

Adele manages creative projects that use arts activities to contribute to local regeneration and help build strong communities.
Adele works closely with colleagues across Council services and other public and voluntary organisations, to develop projects which help produce community consultation and community involvement in creative ways.

Robin Widdowson
Projects Manager (Creative Enterprises)

Robin manages Loca's Creative Business Support Programme, providing advice, training and practical support to those starting up or growing their own business in the creative sector in North Kirklees and at the moment in the Colne Valley. As well as providing advice sessions and managing a programme of regular workshops and networking events, Robin develops links with other business support services, arts organisations and local/regional initiatives to ensure that people working in the creative economy are connected to opportunities that will help their business ventures thrive.

Anne Postlethwaite
Resources Manager

Anne is responsible for the administrative co-ordination of the Loca team and its work; managing the office, finance and IT systems, press and marketing, building management issues and supporting Loca's creative projects.

Gordon Stewart
Borough Organist

Gordon is the Kirklees Borough Organist. He performs at lunchtime concerts at Huddersfield Town Hall; programmes guest organists at the Town Hall; programmes chamber music concerts at Dewsbury Town Hall; and advises on the orchestral programme at both town halls.
