Loneliness Insight - increasing connections and reducing loneliness

What we're doing

Gather insight from Kirklees residents about loneliness. This will be an ongoing piece of work to inform the emerging loneliness agenda. The initial activity will involve Community Plus staff facilitating discussions with 3 existing community groups about what loneliness means to them, barriers to connection, and their ideas to reduce loneliness and increase connection in their community. The second stage will involve testing a draft vision and values with an adults reference group for feedback.

What happened?

A summary report has been produced which details the methods used and findings from the engagement sessions. This includes qualitative information on what loneliness feels like, contributing factors, what helps tackle loneliness and factors that hinder interaction.

What difference did the work make?

The insight generated from this engagement was used to inform the work of the cross sector Loneliness strategic group. The group used this insight during group sessions with professionals and citizens to help develop a vision for Kirklees. This was then taken to the Health and Wellbeing board in June 2019 who endorsed the approach and continuation of the work. As of July 2019 more detailed action planning is taking place.
