Festival of Light is a free street theatre show held in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, in early winter. Thousands of people enjoy the event each year, in which a different show is performed by an internationally renowned company.
Over the years Huddersfield has hosted giant inflatable sea creatures (Plasticiens Volants, 2007), a 200ft crane suspending trapeze artists and musicians (Transe Express, 2006), a firework procession inspired by the works of Belgian painter James Ensor (Xarxa Teatre, 2008) and in 2009 we welcomed back Transe Express again to perform Lacher de Violons (Freeing the Violins).
Always held in the town centre, Festival of Light is a chance for everyone to enjoy some free outdoor theatre and entertainment, which always ends with a huge firework finale. Audiences have grown each year for Festival of Light; from around 2,000 in 2004 to nearly 18,000 who attended the 2009 show.
We usually announce the date for Festival of Light towards the end of the summer, so keep checking back for details of the 2010 event.
