Festival of Light is a free street theatre show held in Huddersfield every November. Each year a different show is performed by an internationally renowned company and enjoyed by thousands of people. Always held in the town centre, Festival of Light is a chance for everyone to enjoy some free outdoor theatre and entertainment, which always ends with a huge firework finale.

Over the years Huddersfield has hosted giant inflatable sea creatures (Plasticiens Volants, 2007), a 200ft crane suspending trapeze artists and musicians (Transe Express, 2006) and a firework procession inspired by the works of Belgian painter James Ensor (Xarxa Teatre, 2008). Audiences have grown each year for Festival of Light; around 2,000 people came to the first show in 2004 and in 2008 the performance, which was repeated over two nights, attracted around 17,000 people.

We are already planning Festival of Light 2009, which will be back with a bang in St George's Square in November. Dates will be announced in summer 2009. In the meantime, why not have a look at some of the photos of previous Festival of Light shows.
