| Huddersfield Literature Festival | | Thursday 11th March 2010 | | The message from 2010 Huddersfield Literature Festival is 'the word in action'. Several events take place on each day of the festival. These events showcase emerging writers alongside established writers. Please see the festival website (link below) for updates and the full festival programme | Wednesday's highlights (10th March)
The Huddersfield Literature Festival Cabaret Launch takes place at one of Huddersfield's finest establishments - the Peacock Lounge, where guests can expect a warm welcome from the burlesque hostess Peggy Lee in elegant surroundings. The night entertains with hilarious comedy in the form of song and spoken words. Starts at 8 - 8.30pm .
Thursday's highlights (11th March)
Alexei Sayle makes an appearance at the Phipps Concert Hall performing readings from his book 'Stalin ate my homework' with an audience interactive question time. After this he will be signing copies of his book. A fun evening for all. 8 pm start
Friday's highlights (12th March)
Friday's theme is 'Album in a day' and starts at 1.15pm with a work shop in song lyric writing in WG/13 at the University of Huddersfield.
In the evening at 6.30 a performance of the workshop's album outcomes is performed by attendees from the work shop. This takes place at the Peacock Lounge.
Simon Armitage will be giving a memorable performance with his band the Scaremongers at Bar 122, support act starts at 9 pm
Saturday's highlights (13th March)
Saturday's theme is film adaptation and storytelling. The headlining event for this day is a panel discussion with a film adaptation industry expert on how to turn a novel in to a film.
An exciting Manga Convention takes place from 12.00 - 17.00. The Manga Convention includes the following activities:-
Cosplay contest (Where individuals dress up as their favourite characters) - A prize for the best dressed character voted by the public.
Art contest - Manga is all about story. An art contest showcases the ever growing talent out there and so that no one is left out, there are three age categories 1-12 13-17 and 17+. Prizes for each category winner.
Video Gaming- expect to play Manga related games in the gaming section.
Sunday's highlights (14th March)
Keith Charter kicks off the day with a children's event - Mutants and Gunk performing readings from his Horrible Henry books in what he calls 'stand up literature.' (See link below) This event starts 11 am. In the evening there will be a performance from Moniza Alvi.
