Notes to help you complete the application form

When you apply for work with Kirklees Council, remember selection for an interview is based on the information contained on the Application for Employment. It is therefore most important that you complete all sections of the Application for Employment as clearly and fully as possible.

Please read the job description which lists the core and specialist tasks that you will be expected to carry out across the range of the Business Support job family.

Application for Employment

Completing the Application for Employment is the first step in the recruitment process that may lead to an interview, the testing of your skills and the possible offer of temporary work. It is, therefore, most important that you complete all sections of the Application for Employment as clearly and fully as possible, particularly the questions about your skills and experience. Please do not send a Curriculum Vitae (CV) instead of the completed Application for Employment, as it cannot be accepted for consideration by the Panel.

The questionnaire asks about the skills and experience you can bring to TempDIRECT.

Complete all parts of the application for employment and answer all the questions.
Where you answer 'No' to a question, pass on to the next question.
Where you answer 'Yes', tell us more about your experience.

Simply saying you have the experience is not enough. You have to be specific and give examples of what you have done and in what kind of situations. If you have faced any problems, please describe how you have overcome them. If you have used specific office equipment or software, please explain which ones you are familiar with and the tasks you have performed with them. The more information you can provide, the better we will understand your skills and abilities.

Do not be afraid to repeat information if you think that this is necessary to cover everything.

Do not forget to write about the relevant skills and experience that you have accumulated in other environments e.g. running a club or voluntary group, or within education.

If you feel you need more space, use extra sheets of paper. If you do, please number them, put your name on the sheet(s), and mark each sheet TempDIRECT.

Relief support work

The Council is committed to employing disabled people within its workforce, some of whom require certain types of support, for example, reading aloud, note-taking, escorting, general clerical help, help with mobility and personal support. Personal support may include assistance with food at lunchtime, assisting someone to transfer from a wheelchair in and out of the car, or assistance with clothing when going to the toilet. The support required will vary from person to person as each colleague with a disability may require supporting in a different way, although the principal remains the same; supporting someone to enable them to do their job.

As part of our TempDIRECT service we provide Relief Support Workers when the people who normally provide support to our disabled colleagues are not available. Relief Support Work assignments can vary from 1 day to a couple of months and may be full time or part time.

If you would like to be considered for inclusion on our Relief Support Worker list please complete the relevant section on the Application for Employment.

Notes to disabled applicants

We recognise and positively implement our responsibility to remove any barriers in our recruitment and selection process for disabled applicants. If you think you have a disability and identify any barriers in the job description please indicate these in your application and we will try to address them. We are committed to making reasonable adjustments for you to do the job wherever possible and need to clearly know your needs in order to do so.

Interviews

If we feel that you demonstrate the ability to undertake, as a minimum, the core duties of business support we will invite you to the next stage of the recruitment and selection process. this consists of an interview, skill assessments and reference checks.
