Services for disabled people, carers and employers

Worklink - December 2006
zahir.daji@kirklees.gov.uk

In 2000, the government introduced the Welfare to Work for Disabled People initiative to help improve opportunities for disabled people and their carers to obtain or remain in work.

To take this forward, Kirklees Council worked in partnership with many different organisations, disabled people and carers to produce a Joint Investment Plan (2001 – 2004). This is a strategy for developing services.

An update and review of this plan was completed in November 2002. You can view this document.

There are also organisations across Kirklees who can help employers find the right people for their vacancies. This includes guidance on recruiting disabled people and keeping disabled people in employment. Issues covered include:
  • how to develop good employment practices.
  • training on disability issues.
  • advice on meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.
  • financial help towards employing disabled people.
Please use the links below to find out more about the services available to support disabled people and carers into work, and services available to employers. Please contact the individual organisations below for further information on their services. Alternatively, you can contact Worklink, the Council's employment service for people with health problems or disabilities.
