What is the Queensgate revival?
Kirklees Council is planning to revive the Queensgate area of Huddersfield town centre. This is connected to lots of other schemes that are being planned which all aim to make the town centre more vibrant. Many people have already been consulted on this project, and their ideas and views have helped influence our plans. We are still very keen to know what you think about our plans for your town.
What are the benefits?
There are lots of benefits of reviving Queensgate; here are just a few of them:
-
There will be more shops, including a large department store and new market hall, giving you a wider choice of where to shop;
-
A better range of shops will mean you can get all you need on your doorstep, without having to travel elsewhere;
-
A new public building will contain a library, artgallery, museum and information centre. This means that you will be able to hire library books, pay your bills and enjoy some public art - all for free and in one place;
-
It will be easier to get in and around the town centre with an increase in public transport routes, pedestrian walkways and better car parking facilities. The Queensgate Revival will modernise the towncentre; making it a place that you can feel proud to visit and spend time in.
