What facilities are there locally that cater for all the major sports? that is football, basketball, rugby and so on.

Is there anywhere I could do sports 4 free?
The Young People’s Service offer many free sports sessions contact 01484 222845 or e-mail YPS@kirklees.gov.uk to find out what is going on in your area.
CUP (Communities United Project) provide free sports activities for young people in various parts of Kirklees. Contact CUP on 01484 510932 for details.
For information on young people’s activities in sports centres, swimming pools and community centres visit www.energisekirklees.co.uk or ring 01484 234096 for details of activities from dance, football, rugby league and many more. Most of these sessions will cost a small amount.
You can also find information on different activities listed in the Kirklees What’s On guide available in libraries and sports centres or at www.kirklees.gov.uk/events – some of these events may be free.
Kirklees Leisure Development offer different sports throughout the year. Some projects such as the Future Football Champs Academy are free, for other courses there is a small charge. Details are available from 01484 234098 or e-mail active.sports@kirklees.gov.uk
Various local sports clubs may offer sports taster sessions free. However most sports clubs will have a junior membership scheme which you can join for an annual membership fee.

Most sports centres offer football coaching courses and Kirklees Leisure Development offer football coaching courses for junior boys and girls in school holidays. Contact 01484 234098 for details.

Is there anywhere that does sports for disabled people?
Many of the Kirklees Active Leisure sports centres and pools have facilities and equipment for people with disabilities.
There also a number of clubs which are based in leisure facilities including the Actionnaires at Huddersfield Sports Centre (tel: 01484 223630) for young people with sight impairment, swimming lessons for children with disabilities at the Stadium (tel: 01484 234110) or Kirklees Sports Association for Disabled people at Huddersfield Sports Centre.
The Deighton Sports Centre is fully accessible.

What discounts does a Kirklees Passport entitle you to?
A Kirklees Passport will give you discounts on activities in Kirklees Active Leisure sports centres and swimming pools. To apply for a Kirklees Passport visit a Kirklees Information Point or ring 01484 234056 for an application form. You can apply for a Kirklees Passport if you a full-time student over 16years old or your parents or you receive a benefit such as council tax benefit, job seekers allowance or a disability benefit.

Are there any places locally that cater for Karate, Thai Boxing, Kick Boxing etc.
Yes. Details of all martial arts clubs are listed at www.kirklees.gov.uk/community/localorgs/localorgs.asp
There are Karate sessions at Huddersfield Sports Centre on Fridays, between 5.00pm – 6.00pm and 6.00pm – 7.00pm , and also on Sundays from 5.00pm – 6.00pm . The cost is £4.00 per session and you don’t have to pay in advance. If, after a couple of the classes you want to carry on, there is a one-off payment of £48.00 for a suit. The classes are not run by the Sports Centre but they will be able to give you contact details.
